Fernando Cantu, Jr.

 
Born in McAllen, Texas the son of migrant workers, Mr. Cantu graduated from McAllen High School in 1990, and enlisted in the US Navy during Operation Desert Shield. He was assigned to NAS Corpus Christi, USS Essex LHD-2 and during Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom he was assigned to NS Ingleside and NAS Kingsville. His military rank at separation from service was Information Technology Petty Officer First Class (E6).

Mr. Cantu has a Bachelor’s in Science from Park University in Management/Computer Information Systems. He has worked for the Hidalgo County Tax Office since 1999. The positions he has held have been Computer Operator for one year, Systems Administrator for two years and Accounting Reports Specialist for twelve years. Recently he was promoted to Assessing Department Manager where he has held the position for one year.

Mr. Cantu has served his local TAAO chapter (RGV TAAO) as a trustee, Vice President, President, and Instructor. He has also served in his community Boy Scouts as Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, Den Chief, and Instructor. He is a member of the St John Lutheran Church of San Juan Texas where he has served as church committee member, Sunday school teacher, Communion Instructor, Confirmation Instructor, youth leader and Lay Minister.

Mr. Cantu is married to Aracely Cantu (high school sweetheart) and they have two sons, Fernando Cantu III, and Joshua S. Cantu. He enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, jogging, mountain biking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba, fishing and target shooting.
